E.Novation International has welcomed another client for their Radiology Information System (RIS) Viewer this month. Poole Hospital NHS Trust became the fifth client of the RIS Viewer for E.Novation UK, part of E.Novation International. With the RIS Viewer, Poole Hospital can view all legacy radiology information of their patients by only using a web browser. The solution supports the aims of the National Programme for Information Technology (NPfIT).
The replacement of the current Radiology Information Systems (RIS) is part of the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) projects currently managed by the Local Service Providers. The reasons for replacement are various; a number of data definitions have changed, the quality of data is poor due to duplicated patient registrations and incomplete information, and old-fashioned hardware platforms don't meet the current IT standards. The need for a new RIS is clear, but healthcare providers avoid the need to lose their current radiology data.
E.Novation International has developed the RIS Viewer as a solution to solve this problem. The RIS Viewer is a web based platform, which healthcare providers simply access via a web browser. This eliminates the need for local applications on the usually limited computer systems of these organisations. The E.Novation International solution provides a separate 'read only' database which contains current data from the replaced RIS. It should be noted that, to ensure compliance with the Data Protection Act, it was necessary to provide limited editing capability to the RIS data items. This will only be made available to certain key users.
The RIS Viewer is also implemented in the NHS Trusts Dartford and Gravesham, East Kent Hospitals, Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells and Medway. Poole Hospital NHS Trust is a modern, 790-bedded acute hospital which is situated close to the centre of Poole. The hospital treats well over a quarter of million patients a year, providing acute medical care and a number of other important services like paediatrics, maternity and trauma care. The Trust also provides a Dorset wide neurology service and cancer care for patients across the county.
The implementation of the RIS Viewer in Poole Hospital commenced at the beginning of July. A product description of the RIS Viewer can be found on the website of E.Novation UK.
